HOPE — Lesley University of Cambridge Massachusetts will be offering their renowned Masters in Education Integrating the Arts across the curriculum in Hope at Sweet Tree Arts starting this summer. The program meets one weekend a month over 22 months. We are currently still accepting applications. Orientation will be June 6, classes begin July 23.

Accepted into the program currently are a variety of classroom teachers from around the State of Maine, elementary, middle school and high school classroom teachers, administrators and specialists in art and music will create a rich cohort and learning environment. Each weekend faculty from the Lesley campus in Cambridge will travel to Hope to teach classes at Sweet Tree Arts.

The program is appropriate for classroom teachers PreK — 12 interested in enlivening their teaching and learning experiences and achieving their Masters in Education. Artistic ability is not necessary to participate in the program, the arts — Storytelling, Poetry, Music, Drama, Visual Arts and Movement are used to engage, build dialogue, look deeply at our practice and to reflect on our personal and professional experiences in the classroom and in our daily lives. The arts allows the opportunity for educators to explore the practice of teaching and learning with new perspectives and makes transparent our findings and experiences.

"Arts Integration is an approach to Teaching in which students construct and demonstrate understanding through an art form. Students engage in a creative process which connects an art form and another subject area and meets evolving objectives in both."
The Kennedy Center for the Arts Definition for Arts Integration.

Informational meetings about the program will be held June 11 and July 23 at 10 a.m. both at Sweet Tree Arts. For more information contact Lindsay Pinchbeck Director of Sweet Tree arts and Lesley University Liaison. sweettreearts@gmail.com or tel. 207-542-8008.
