CAMDEN — Lennice B. Buckwold, 93, a longtime resident of St. George, died March 6, 2014, at Quarry Hill, after a period of declining health.

Born in Ashby, Mass., June 6, 1920, she was the youngest of four children born to Lemuel Eugene and Claretta Grace von Iderstine Brooks.

Educated in local schools, she was a 1938 graduate of Ashby High School, where she participated on the basketball team, was once High School Laurel Princess and excelled in that school's art program.

June 15, 1940, she married her neighbor, Donald E. Buckwold, in Ashby. The couple made their first home in Boxboro, Mass., where Mr. Buckwold taught in a one-room school. Mrs. Buckwold worked with the Selective Service Board.

It was in Stoneham that the Buckwolds put down roots. They raised their family in that community, where Mrs. Buckwold was active in the PTA, served as a Girl Scout leader and as a Sunday School teacher with the Episcopal Church.

Following her husband's retirement the couple moved permanently to St. George, where she helped her husband in many of his building projects and ventures. Lennice gained much personal satisfaction through art and enjoyed enameling, making copper jewelry, crafts, and oil painting, and she was always eager to try her hand at a new art adventure. She also loved flowers and loved to garden. She was an avid Poker player and, "could empty your pockets," her daughter remembered.

Mrs. Buckwold was predeceased by her siblings, her parents and her husband in 2008. She is survived by two daughters, Judith Buckwold Bowen and her husband, Frederick, of Cape Coral, Fla., and Donnice Buckwold Weitemeyer and her husband, David, of Punta Gorda, Fla.; one son, Ralph Brooks Buckwold and his wife, Pamela, of Manchester, Conn.; six grandchildren, David Scott Bowen of San Diego, Calif., Gregory Warren Bowen of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., Jennifer Anne Bowen O'Flanagan, residing in Ireland, Ashley Buckwold, living in Arizona, Alexa Buckwold, who just moved to southern California, and Kristen Casey of Rochester, Mass.; as well as seven great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be announced in the spring by Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home in Rockland.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. George Firefighters and Ambulance Association, P.O. Box 249, Tenants Harbor, ME 04860.
