DAMARISCOTTA — The River Tripper’s successful second year of operation is celebrating with the last special cruises for this year. In gratitude for the great community support, the crew of The River Tripper has added another Locals Day on Sept. 19, 5 p.m. with special drinks and a free oyster. Tickets are only $20 for Mainers and local employees. All are welcome.

On Aug 27 at 5:30 p.m. will be the last “Reggae on the River” cruise of this season. World-class reggae musicians of The Bamboo Town are a show not to be missed anywhere, let alone on the serene Damariscotta River. Dancing is allowed and highly encouraged.

In case you haven’t tried the ground breaking wine, champagne and sake tastings, paired with our very own Damariscotta River oysters, you can still catch the unique and fun event in the next couple of weeks.

Some claim that one of the best pairing choices for oysters and seafood is Japanese sake. Do you agree? Or do you prefer wine and champagne? Perhaps beer is your choice?

On Aug. 29, 5to 7 p.m., Sake and Oyster Tasting

Guests will be invited to explore a succulent array of Damariscotta River oysters paired with a dynamic range of premium sakes selected by South Portland Wine Company. Oyster and sake beginners are very welcome!

On Sept. 5, 5 to7 p.m., Wine and Oyster Tasting

This tasting cruise will include six sumptuous wines paired with the freshest Damariscotta River oysters while cruising down the River past all seven oyster farms, basking seals, bald eagles and other wildlife aboard the comfortable and roomy River Tripper. A scenic and educational cruise, with an expert local wine docent and raconteur, who guarantees to amuse as well as inform. Price: $50 per person

On Sept. 12, 5 to7 p.m., Champagne and Oyster Tasting

Your “bubbly” expert has traveled the vineyards of the world and will delight you with stories and valuable information. Captain Chip will help unlock the secrets of the exotic and succulent oysters with his highly entertaining story telling abilities of a true Mainer. Price: $55 per person
