CAMDEN — Lanie Kandt Crawford, 43, mother of Cassidy Crawford and Nora Finck, died unexpectedly at her home in Camden on Oct. 25, 2015. Born Oct. 10, 1972, in Seattle, Wash., she was the daughter of A. Frank and Maxine (Salazar) Kandt, and was a 1990 graduate of Interlake High School.

Lanie is keenly missed by everyone who was touched by her immense compassion, acceptance and sense of humor. Lanie worked at Hope Health in Camden and was much loved by patients and staff there. She took a special interest in older patients and went out of her way to check in on them.

In 1998, Lanie moved to the East Coast from Seattle. Her friends include people whose lives she touched on the West Coast as well as here on the East Coast. She is universally remembered as being easy-going, sweet and supportive but would at times also be fierce (in promoting strength in her daughters), surprising (she loved heavy metal music) and hysterically funny. She used slapstick physical comedy to get her loved ones laughing.

She loved to get together with friends to sing karaoke (she was really good!), she loved to dance and to spend time with her two daughters traveling, baking treats, doing puzzles, joking, snuggling and watching movies. Spending time with her brother and his family and with her parents was a big priority for her. In the previous few years, she took two trips to Cairo, Egypt, to spend time with her daughter, Cassidy. She was joined on one of those trips by her mother, Maxine, and on the other by her brother, Jeff, and her nephew, Henry.

Lanie imparted to her daughters many important things. Among those were a sense of self-determination, a pride and appreciation in being girls and women, and a strength of character. She is deeply missed for these attributes, as well as for her ability to light up a room with her silliness, laughter and sense of fun.

Surviving are her two daughters, Cassidy Crawford and Nora Finck; her parents, Frank and Maxine Kandt; her brother, Jeff Kandt, sister-in-law, Susie Mortland Kandt, and their children, Maggie and Henry Kandt; her former husband and dear friend, Phil Finck; and by several beloved aunts, uncles and cousins. She is also survived by many, many devoted friends, all over the country, who loved her deeply, and by her small community in Camden that is profoundly feeling her loss.

Lanie was in a very happy, healthy, optimistic time in her life and spent her final evening laughing and singing with her dearest friends.

A celebration of her life will be held Tuesday, Nov. 3 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at High Mountain Hall in Camden.

In lieu of gifts or donations, if you feel compelled to do something in her memory, please just spend time with your own loved ones and enjoy how special they are.

Arrangements are with Long Funeral Home & Cremation Service.
