Kirk Gentalen to lead Tracking in Winter at Merryspring, Feb. 17

Event has passed

CAMDEN — Kirk Gentalen will lead an outdoor tracking walk Saturday, February 17, from 10 a.m. to noon, at Merryspring Nature Center.

Merryspring and Maine Coast Heritage Trust invite observers of all levels and ages to join steward and nature guy Kirk Gentalen for a lively morning outdoors to discover some of the wildlife stories that Merryspring Nature Center in Camden has to offer.

Fresh snow captures animal tracks, trails, and tunnels providing lessons untaught any other season. With its varied habitats, Merryspring offers hundreds of clues for the intrepid ‘outdoorshuman’ who knows what to look for, according to Merryspring, in a news release.

Deer, coyote, fox, raccoon, and fisher tracks are all possibilities when Merryspring is under a blanket of snow. Gentalen will also instruct how to look for clues to the presence of owls.

The group will meet at 10 a.m., in the Merryspring Nature Center parking lot, 30 Conway Road in Camden. Participants should dress in layers and wear appropriate boots for walking off trail in deep snow. Binoculars and cameras are encouraged.

Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. All attendees must wear sturdy shoes, and weather-appropriate clothing. For more information, email Merryspring at education@merryspring.org or call 207-236-2239.

This walk is one of many Free Programs at Merryspring co-sponsored by Camden Riverhouse Hotel. Attendance is free for everyone.
