CAMDEN — Hope Tri participants will be donning their swimwear for the LiveStrong YMCA cancer program fundraiser on Saturday, July 16. YMCA Executive Director Troy Curtis made the announcement Thursday afternoon after receiving an update on the influx of algae in Hosmer Pond.
“I received a great report from Pat Finnigan, Camden’s town manager, this morning, and the Pond seems to be in good shape,” Curtis said in an email.
Earlier this spring, residents living along Hosmer Pond’s shoreline raised concerns regarding the health and safety of algae plumes growing larger by the year. Their concerns led to an investigation by the Department of Environmental Protection Agency, the questioning of Camden officials’ roles in maintaining the Pond’s health, and by default, the ability of Hope Tri participants to conclude the swim/cycle/run challenge this summer.
