Meeting tonight

Hope Selectmen take up marijuana conversation, property disposal

Mon, 12/12/2016 - 10:45am

Hope selectmen meet this evening, Dec. 12, at 6 p.m., to address of variety of agenda items, including an update about the status of the Union Chemical superfund site in South Hope, a tentative proposal by a Hope resident to open a retail business selling marijuana items, and the acceptance of 16 acres on Bull Hill.

The meeting begins at 6 p.m. at the Hope Town Office.

The resident inquiring about opening a pot store has not submitted an application, and all such proposals remain contingent on whether Question 1, legalizing use, growth and sale of recreational marijuana, passes in the ongoing recount of Nov. 8 ballots by the Maine Secretary of State’s office.

That recount is not expected to be finished for another four to six weeks. After that, there is an anticipated nine-month rulemaking process for the state and municipalities.

In other town business, Hope acquired 16.6 acres of land on Bull Hill for nonpayment of taxes. The town must now decide whether to dispose of the land by sealed bid or retain an realtor to help. Bull Hill is off of Route 105, just northwest of Hope Corner.

The selectmen will also talk about reshingling a portion of the town office roof.
