High School basketball roundup — Feb. 3

The high school basketball season comes to a screeching halt Thursday as most teams play their final regular season game of the 2015-16 season.

Every game is important with teams fighting for position in the postseason play.

Here are the games reported to us from Tuesday, Feb. 2

UNIFIED BASKETBALL
Oceanside 48, Orono 32 ... At Rockland, The Oceanside Unified basketball team hosted Orono Tuesday, Feb. 2 in a game at Oceanside East.

Oceanside led all the way in this one, 16-4 after the first quarter, 28-10 and 40-18 heading into the final stanza.

Scoring for Oceanside were, Eddie Davis had 20 points; Jacob Morris 10; Laylee Heino, Tyler Ward and Isaiah Jones four each; and Nick Colson, Adrieanna Stowe and Zachary Villano had two each.

For Orono, Jacob Long had 16 points; Zach Bowden eight; Dan Fitzgerald four; and Makayla Sennett and Marius Deanne two each.

The Oceanside spirit squad consisted of, Julia Barbour, Alexis Mazurek, Caroline Duda, Mary Allen, Sidney Hall, Danielle Ladd, and Sophie Hall

BOYS BASKETBALL
Oceanside 58, Belfast 56 ... At Belfast, The Oceanside boys basketball team traveled to Belfast Tuesday and pulled out a two point win over a determined Belfast team.

Oceanside took a 16-14 first quarter lead and a 33-22 lead at the halftime break. Belfast came back strong in the third quarter to cut the Mariners lead to 42-35 heading into the final quarter. Here the Lions were on fire, tying the game a couple of times and taking the lead twice. However it was the 8-for-8 foul shooting from Oceanside that ended up giving the Mariners the hard fought win.

Scoring leaders for Oceanside were, Keenan Hendricks with 13 points; and Nate Raye 10, all in the fourth quarter.

For Belfast it was Zane Bielenberg with 14 points; Stan Sturgis 12 and Rory Ambrose with 11.

Oceanside will end the regular season Thursday, Feb. 4 when they host Gardiner while Belfast will travel to Waldoboro for a game with Medomak Valley.

Cony 84, Camden Hills 76 … At Rockport, The Windjammers hosted Cony Tuesday and put up a great fight only to fall to Cony of Augusta.

Cony led after each quarter in this one, 21-19 after the first quarter, 44-38 at the half and 67-56 heading into the final eight minutes.

Scoring for the Windjammers were, Noah Heidorn with 23 points; Dalton Oakes 11; Gage Corson and Devin Vangel 10 each; Gavin Boyd and Morgan Ford nine each; and Julian Starbird and Daniel Peabody two each.

For Cony, Timothy Cusick had 25 points; Jordan Roddy 16; Carter Cleaves and Nijual Davis 14 each; Reid Shostak five; and Nate Parlin four.

The Windjammers will play their last game of the season Thursday, Feb. 4 when they host Lawrence of Fairfield at 7 p.m.
