Free six-week memoir writing series at Rockland Public Library

ROCKLAND — Join local author and illustrator Debby Atwell, starting Tuesday, Oct. 7 at 10 a.m. for a six-week memoir workshop at the Rockland Public Library.

Following Christopher Vogler's book, The Writer's Journey: Mythic Structure for Writers, participants will lightly explore the relationship between mythology and storytelling. Participants will be encouraged to write their memoir from the hero's perspective.

Concepts like threshold guardian, shape shifter, and mentor will be introduced. Participants will be invited to share their work as well, but nothing is mandatory.

Pre-register as space is limited. To pre-register, call the Library at 594-0310, or stop by the Library's Reference Desk. For more information about workshop content, call Atwell at 542-9200.

Atwell began her work with children's books by illustrating two titles by her husband. Since then she has written and self-illustrated several more picture books in a style that a Publishers Weekly reviewer described as "a sort of Currier & Ives meets Grandma Moses."
