BROOKS — Evelyn E. Hemphill, 86, died March 1, 2017, at her daughter's home in Camden, after an extended illness.

Born in Bradford, Pa., on March 29, 1930, she was the daughter of Garrett and Verla Field Seaward. She was educated in Limestone, N.Y., schools.

On April 9, 1947, she married Daniel W. Hemphill. Her husband's service with the United States Coast Guard found them stationed in various locations up the Eastern Seaboard. They eventually settled in Maine, where Evelyn worked in local seafood processing factories.

With her husband, Evelyn enjoyed fishing on local lakes. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, doing jigsaw puzzles and watching Hee Haw.

She was a past member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary and the Winslow-Holbrook-Merritt American Legion Post No. One Auxiliary, Rockland.

In addition to her parents; and her husband; Evelyn was predeceased by a granddaughter, Bobbie Heskett; and her siblings, Donald, Marion, Marg and Ruth.

She is survived by two daughters, Elois E. Vinal and her fiancé, Adrian Reed, of Camden, and Gloria Standring of Bangor; her siblings, Gary Seward of Florida and Dorothy Parker of Georgia; six grandchildren; many great- and great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; as well as Deborah Martin of Lincolnville, who she considered as a daughter and who became a caregiver during Evelyn's recent illness.

No service will be held at this time. Private burial will be in Kenney Cemetery in Brooks.
