CAMDEN — Eileen Ivers brings her UnIVERSal Roots band to the Camden Opera House Friday, March 22, at 7:30 p.m. Doors will open 7 p.m. at the downtown venue, 29 Elm St.

The band’s spring tour began last month in Dublin, familiar territory for Ivers, a nine-time All-Ireland Fiddle Champion.

“The original musical star of ‘Riverdance’ and founding member of Cherish the Ladies, Ivers has established herself as the pre-eminent exponent of the Irish fiddle in the world today,” said the opera house, in a news release.

The daughter of Irish immigrants grew up in the culturally diverse neighborhood of the Bronx, New York. After graduating magna cum laude in mathematics from Iona College and while continuing her post-graduate work in mathematics, she fully immersed herself in the different genres of music she’d experienced growing up.

Ivers and her ensemble headline performing arts centers, guest star with numerous symphonies, perform at major festivals worldwide, and have appeared on national and international television. UnIVERSal Roots features Buddy Connolly on accordion, whistles and keyboards; Colin Forhan on guitar, banjo, concertina and vocals; Lindsay Horner on upright and electric bass, and baritone sax; and Dave Barckow on percussion, guitar and vocals.

Ivers' recording credits include more than 80 contemporary and traditional albums and numerous movie scores. She is hailed as one of the great innovators and pioneers in the Celtic and World music genres, and concertgoers will see why as her fingers wield the fiddle while she live-loops with her feet, according to the release. She's been called a "sensation" by Billboard magazine and "the Jimi Hendrix of the violin" by The New York Times.

“She may be the finest pure musician I’ve ever seen perform at the Camden Opera House,” said manager Dave Morrison. “Her ability to transport an audience from a pub in Ireland to a new part of the galaxy will take your breath away.”

Choose-your-own reserved seat tickets for Eileen Ivers are $40 in advance, $45 day-of-show, at camdenoperahouse.com.
