OWLS HEAD — Dorothy (Goodnow) Todd, 91, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2017, surrounded by her loving family.

Dorothy was born March 26, 1926, in Stillwater, to Fred and Evelyn Goodnow. She was the granddaughter of Wilbur and Pearle Miles, with whom she spent the first 13 years of her life growing up on their farm in Stillwater, making wonderful memories that she so cherished.

Educated locally, Dorothy was a 1943 graduate of Rockland High School and attended the University of Maine at Orono. Summers she worked at her parent's soda fountain at Goodnow's Pharmacy in Rockland, where she eventually met her future husband, Bert, who was stationed at the Rockland Coast Guard station. They married June 16, 1946, and together they made their home in Rockland. Dorothy spent most of her life as a homemaker and a devoted mother, raising their five children.

She loved each and every one of her children and their families unconditionally, and always stayed a big part of their lives. She was the rock of the family. Dorothy was always there when anyone needed her for support and advice.

Animals had a special place in Dorothy's heart as well. She was kind and caring and took in many stray cats that she would find homes for and any other animals her children would drag home.

Dorothy loved to cook and often referred to herself as a "foodie." She always was cooking delicious home-cooked food from scratch and the house had a wonderful aroma as soon as you passes through the door, which was always open. She made everyone feel warm and welcome. Family and friends looked forward to gathering for her famous Sunday dinners.

Dorothy was a voracious reader; reading anything she could get her hands on. She loved to learn about the world and was especially intrigued with Egyptian history. She read the newspapers daily and was always up on all current events. Dorothy had an amazing memory and could recite many famous poems and many classic passages she had learned as a child.

Throughout the years, Dorothy enjoyed trips with the Senior Citizens Club and bus tours with Bert. She was always game to go along with any of her children to different events, trips or to just go on errands with them. She simply loved to be part of their lives.

Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, Robert C. Todd (Bert) of 57 years; her son, Robert M. “Bobby” Todd; and her brothers, Fred Jr. and David Goodnow. She is survived by her son, Richard Todd of Rockland; her daughters, Sue Tinker-Madore and her husband, Jay, of Owls Head, Jane McGuire and her husband, Michael, of Owls Head, and Amy Drinkwater and her husband, Kurt, of Rockport; her sister, Lynda Harvey and her husband, Les; nine grandchildren, Ryan and Megan Tinker, Anthony Madore, Tracy Powers, James Todd, Allie Todd, Kayla McGuire, and Evan and Addie Drinkwater; and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Her family extends special thanks to her caregivers and friends from PALS, PBMC and the Knox Center.

A celebration of her life will be held Wednesday, April 19, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St. in Rockland. A service of love and remembrance will be held at 6 p.m.
