BROOKS — Charles O. “Sonny” Cole Jr., 66, of Brooks, passed away March 16, 2014, in Belfast surrounded by his family. He was born May 17, 1947, in Winterport, the son of Charles and Nelda (Glidden) Cole Sr.

Sonny, as he liked to be called, worked in the woods most of his life and being outdoors. He loved his country music and dancing.

He was predeceased by his parents; his sister, Norma Cole Lavine; and his grandson, Hazen Nicholas Tibbetts. Sonny is survived by his girlfriend, Sylvia Curtis; his daughters, Melissa Cole Steele and her husband, Brett, and Lynn Cole Crooker and her husband, Peter; his step-children, Stanley Curtis and his wife, Sally, Nancy Deacon and Rose Williams; his sisters, Nancy McKay, Katharyn Parker, Sherry Freemon, Linda Parker and Sandra Dunton; his brothers, Reginald Cole and Carlton Cole; his grandchildren, Dyllen Gibbs, Kelsey Tripp, Kristen Tripp, Michael Steele, Brittany Steele, Bill Hall, Bob Hall, Wayne Curtis and Becky Curtis; his great-grandson, Dyllen Gibbs II; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was loved by many and will be missed by all.

A memorial gathering will be held Thursday, March 20, from 4 to 5 p.m. with a service beginning at 5 p.m.  at Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave. in Belfast.
