Thursday, Aug. 28 

The Medicine of the Civil War by Dr. Richard Kahn, with historical medical paraphernalia, 7 p.m. at the Camden Public Library, as part of the library’s Civil War Series. 


Friday, Aug. 29

Free walking tour of Camden, 4 p.m., hosted by the Camden Public Library and the Downtown Business Group, begins at library. Tours last an hour; reservations are encouraged, call the library at 236-3440. 


Saturday, Aug. 30

 “The Tragedy of the Whaleship Essex,” an illustrated lecture by Dick Cornelia, about the 1820 sinking of the Essex in the Pacific. 1 p.m. at the Camden Public Library, as part of Windjammer Festival. The true story of the Essex was the source of Melville’s Moby Dick


Wednesday, Sept. 3

 Midcoast Stroke Support Group regular meeting at the Camden Public Library, 10 a.m., open to all. 


Thursday, Sept. 4

Author Paul Doiron of Camden presents the latest in his “Poacher’s Son” series, The Bone Orchard, 7 p.m. at the Camden Public Library. 


Saturday, Sept. 6

 Midcoast Mini Maker Faire at the Camden Amphitheatre, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Faire is a “hands-on to high-tech” celebration of tinkerers, thinkers, and makers sharing their passions for innovation, creativity, and do-it-yourself activities. All are welcome; $2 donation, $5 for families. Sponsored by Bangor Savings Bank and Blackstone Accelerates Growth, hosted by Camden Public Library and Midcoast Magnet.

 

Free “Grow Your Business” seminar, 1 p.m. at the Camden Public Library, as part of the Maker Faire events. The seminar, presented by Blackstone Accelerates Growth, will offer the free resources and grants that are available to new businesses. 


Sunday, Sept. 7

Free seminar on “Money: The Myth and Mystery Explained,” with an emphasis on individual and family finances, presented at the Camden Public Library at 2 p.m., by the Camden Seventh-Day Adventist Church. The presenter is Ted Huskins, a pastor for more than 20 years and the former President of Coleman Stewardship Services Inc. 


 

 Tuesday, Sept. 9

 It’s time for “grown-up” Show & Tell, 7 p.m. at the Camden Public Library, led by Meghan Vigeant. Bring an object and share the story behind it. Mementos, photos, letters, souvenirs, cards, newspaper clippings, musical instruments, old toys, artwork, something that you made, anything that means something to you! Each person will have five minutes to show and tell their story. 


 

Thursday, Sept. 11

 “Micronesia,” an illustrated history and slide talk by Paul Marshall, at the Camden Public Library, 7 p.m.
