Camden Planning Board addresses short-term rentals and accommodations

CAMDEN — The Camden Planning Board convenes tonight to talk about the ordinances guiding short-term rentals, lodgings and other transient accommodations and locations.

The meeting begins in the Washington Street Meeting Room at 5 p.m.

The discussion, according to Camden Planner and Code Enforcement Officer Stephen Wilson, is “to see if the board wishes to open a discussion on lodgings, both current types and future uses in the area, the effects on neighborhoods and if the current ordinance  adequately addresses issues or not.”

The topic arose as part of the Camden Comprehensive Plan update, “as various types of rentals are changing the faces and feel of neighborhoods across the world,” said Wilson. “If they wish to continue, the recommendation is to create an online questionnaire to  gather public opinion, comments,  and identify issues they would like addressed in the future.

“Then have public forums to share the results and determine where and how to go forward.”
