AMHERST, Mass. — Police in Massachusetts have arrested a Camden man on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

Noah K. Pfister, 24, turned himself into police Nov. 18, two days after a University of Massachusetts student was stabbed in the neck and chest. The victim, a 21-year-old male from Washington, D.C., was located by police at a residence on Pine Street in Amherst, Mass.

Pfister, a Howe Hill Road resident who is not a student at the school, has been charged with using a knife in the assault, according to a press release on the police department's website. Pfister was in town visiting a girlfriend and the victim was allegedly the woman's former boyfriend.

Amherst police were called to the Pine Street residence around 12:34 p.m. Nov. 16 and found numerous college aged people that had congregated in the area following earlier parties on another road, according to the release. Police located the victim, who had been stabbed several times in the neck and chest, and sustained a hand injury.

The victim, from Washington, D.C., was transported by Amherst Fire Department ambulance to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield for treatment. Police said his injuries are not life threatening and he is expected to recover.

The investigation had identified Pfister as a suspect before he turned himself in.

Pfister was arrested and jailed on $25,000 bail. He was to appear in court earlier this week.
