ROCKPORT – The Camden Hills golf team is off to a good start this season, their first time back in Class A in a few years.

The Windjammers play their home matches at the Samoset Golf Club, which provides a stellar course to play on and to practice on. Visiting teams always seem to enjoy coming to play against Camden Hills.

Wednesday, Sept. 2, the Windjammers played host to the Messalonskee Eagles of Oakland, which handed the Windjammers their first loss of the season: 7.5-1.5. It was a beautiful day for golf. The wind was mild; the sun was shining with quick breaks in the clouds. A little humid, but certainly OK. The views are fantastic at the Samoset.

However, as well as the Windjammers played Wednesday, the Eagles played better.

Messalonskee finished with a four-golfer, nine-hole stroke total of 161 to 170 for Camden Hills.

There was an unusual three-way tie for medalist in this match, with freshman Cole Anderson and Julian Starbird of Camden Hills and Billy Rollins of Messalonskee all shooting a nine-hole 37 score.

Individual results, with Camden Hills players, listed first were; Cole Anderson tied Billy Rollins (37 each), Julian Starbird (37) beat Dylon Barton (39), Braden Fisher (50) lost to Jared Cunningham (46), Connor O'Dwyer (51) lost to Riley Cambell (42), Max Horovitz (52) lost to Blake Marden (45), and Connor Russell (46) lost to Jacob Bernatche (43).

Camden falls to 2-1 on the season with the loss. The Windjammers will be back on the course against Mt. Blue of Farmington Friday, Sept. 4 at the Samoset Golf Club. There is a 4 p.m. tee time set for the match.
