Belfast Special Olympians bring home tennis medals

ROCKPORT — The Midcoast Recreation Center and Special Olympics Maine hosted the 11th annual tennis individual skills competition Wednesday, Aug. 16 with 78 athletes from throughout the state competing.

Among the teams competing were the Coastal Navigators from Camden and the Belfast Tennis For Fun group.

Representing the Belfast group, Cody Herard won a gold medal, Brandi Place and Dina Snape won silver, and Kelly Aldus won bronze. 

 

"Tennis For Fun" is a free tennis clinic for special needs athletes. The goal of the program is to give athletes the opportunity to have fun playing tennis, learn basic skills, train for special Olympics tennis and socialize. The Belfast program is in its 14th year. The clinics are held at Belfast City Park Fridays from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. from June to October. For more information visit tennisforfun.org or call Judy at 207-338-0905.
