Tue, 08/19/2014 - 1:00pm

ROCKPORT — Sunday afternoon, Aug. 24, at 1:30 p.m., the Belfast Bay Fiddlers will present the final concert of the summer series at the Rockville Community Chapel. This concert is free to the public, with donations greatly appreciated. Tap your toes and clap your hands to their repertoire, which includes jigs, reels, hornpipes, polkas, and waltzes performed on fiddle, guitar, mandolin, whistle, banjo, bass, piano, and other instruments.

Home-baked goodies will be available on the lawn during intermission; proceeds go toward an outstanding new-roof loan.

The Belfast Bay Fiddlers is a group of amateur musicians from the Midcoast who play traditional dance tunes from New England, French and Atlantic Canada, Ireland, Scotland, and other regions. The Belfast Bay Fiddlers evolved from its weekly jam session in Belfast into a popular group that plays at regional festivals, community events, contra dances, schools, and senior centers.

The Belfast Bay Fiddlers have performed at New Years by the Bay, the Maine Celtic Celebration, Arts in the Park, and the Harbor Fest. Its weekly Sunday evening jam sessions at Waterfall Arts in Belfast are open to anyone who enjoys playing or listening to traditional music.

The Rockville Community Chapel has been recently renovated, and the Rockville Community Chapel Association is striving to make it self-sufficient. The Chapel is the only public building left in the tiny village of Rockville. The Association envisions the building standing for many years for future generations to enjoy.

The Rockville Community Chapel is at 87 Old Rockland St. (off Route 17 behind the Green Thumb), in Rockport. Like the church on Facebook and visit the website www.rockvillemechapel.org.
