Barry Martin Faber, obituary
Barry Martin Faber died on December 19, 2025, at age 87, with his wife and two children by his side.
Born in Manhattan on May 7, 1938, Barry was the son of Ralph and Dora Siegel Faber, who for several years ran a small restaurant in upstate New York called “Barry’s.”
Barry graduated from South Fallsburg (New York) High School, then graduated from University of Cincinnati with a degree in business and finance, and then joined the US Air Force, serving as First Lieutenant and stationed in Texas, Alabama, Maine, and England.
Barry had planned to work on Wall Street after his time in the US Air Force. However, while stationed in Bangor, he met and married Adele Grossman, whose father was Judge A. Alan Grossman, a lawyer in Rockland who encouraged Barry to pursue the legal profession. So, Barry went to Suffolk Law School and then joined the law practice that became known as Grossman-Faber, located at 449 Main Street. Barry retired in 2008 and remained living in Rockland year-round.
Barry was very active in community affairs, serving as Owls Head Town Attorney, Rockland City Attorney, Rockland Election Clerk, Knox County Judge of Probate, and Board Chairman of SAD #5. He served as President of Adas Yoshuron Synagogue, leading many ecumenical activities including a model seder at St Bernard’s Church in Rockland, and was made an honorary member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Camden. He was always seen walking around Main Street and, for decades, walked home from his office every day for lunch. He was a voracious reader, loved following current affairs and the stock market, enjoyed watching wildlife documentaries, and was devoted to his family.
Barry is survived by his wife of 61 years, Adele Grossman Faber. He is survived also by his two children, Joseph Faber (who is married to Sumy Daeufer) of Dobbs Ferry, New York and Rockport, Maine, and Ida Faber of Boston, Massachusetts, as well as his four grandchildren, Emma Faber (who is married to Sam Gonzales-Gross) of New York, New York, Nathaniel Faber of Hurleyville, New York, Sarah Faber of Brooklyn, New York, and Alice Faber of Dobbs Ferry, New York. Barry’s sister and brother-in-law, Cheri and Clyde Bragg, reside in Viola, Delaware.
The family wishes to have a private burial. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to MaineHealth Pen Bay Hospital, designated to the Special Care Unit.
