Belfast Area Chamber of Commerce

We take great pride in all that our communities have to offer along this beautiful stretch of midcoast Maine. The diversity of the rich cultural experiences you will find here are unparalleled, whether you come for outdoor recreation, a varied selection of the arts, an exciting food environment, unique shopping, and historic gems.

Nothing says Maine more than our scenic treasures. Here in the midcoast, we think you'll find the best of Maine. In Stockton Springs, visit Fort Point for a look at one of Maine's iconic coastal sentinels – the lighthouse. The foot paths and pebble beach guarantees hours of fun for the family. In Searsport, Moose Point State Park affords expansive views of the ocean, woodsy paths, and a new playground. In Belfast, try the walking bridge at the mouth of the harbor, stroll on the walkway along Harbor Park or enjoy a walking tour of historic downtown. If you want to stick your feet in the sand and watch the lobster boats bob in the harbor, then Lincolnville Beach is the place for you. While you're in Lincolnville, take a hike up Bald Rock Mountain for a glorious view from above. Looking for something more adventurous, we've got it! Take a guided kayak trip into the harbor, rent a boat, or try fishing in one of our many lakes.

Foodies will find experiences to savor throughout Waldo County and the Belfast area. Our restaurants offer delicious fare and variety that includes Mexican, Thai, American, Vegetarian, and everything in between. Of course, you can get lobster, lobster, lobster overlooking the many harbors, sample some artisanal beers bayside at our local brewery, and taste Maine wines at a local winery. Take a seat at a pub and join the locals for some great fried clams, homemade chowder, and Maine blueberry pie! On Fridays, we close the street in Belfast so local farmers can offer up their goodies at the Farmers Market, one of many in the area.

Want to get out and shop? Visit our downtowns for some of the most unique shopping in Maine. At our locally-owned stores, you'll find books to suit any interest, fashionable clothing, supplies for the green home, the oldest shoe store in the country, handmade pottery, gardening supplies, antiques, original art, and more throughout Waldo County. Belfast is home to the largest selection of galleries in a city its size in Maine, and artists and artisans abound in many of our communities. Be sure to try some of the whimsical, interactvie sculpture along the streets in downtown Belfast, brought to us by Waterfall Arts, an art school and gallery.

To truly experience our rich culture, try one of our art or historic offerings. Take part in a class, exhibition, or performance at numerous arts centers where all ages are welcome. Enjoy the sounds of Acadico, a new style of music created by Blou, a band from the Canadian Maritime provinces - just one of the performances in the vibrant schedule of events at the Unity Center for the Performing Arts at Unity College. Three local theatre groups - the Belfast Maskers, Marsh Theatre, and Northport Music Theatre - entertain us throughout the year with community productions and if that's not enough, our local art deco theatre is host to the choicest of movies each week and an eclectic schedule of additional events on their renovated stage. In Searsport, visit the Penobscot Maritime Museum for a true appreciation of our maritime heritage. Seven buildings of exhibits and a gift shop await you, including areas just for kid fun.

As you browse through our web site, I'm sure you'll find that the Belfast Bay area will provide you with days of fun and enjoyment, so be sure to book plenty of time at any of our local accommodations. While you're here, we hope you'll consider a return stay or better yet, one that will last a lifetime.
