The History of The Olson House at The Lincoln Home

Event has passed

Nancy Jones, retired teacher and docent at The Olson House will speak on its history Monday, May 18, from 3:00 to 4:00pm. The Olson House is the subject of numerous works of art by Andrew Wyeth, including his 1948 masterpiece Christina’s World. Wyeth was inspired to paint Christina's World by the story of Christina Olson, who had lost the use of her legs to polio. Wyeth befriended the Olsons and maintained a studio in the house. Today, The Olson House is owned by the Farnsworth Art Museum, and is open to the public. Farnsworth executive director Christopher Brownawell noted, "This nondescript saltwater farmhouse and its connecting structure has become one of the most recognized images in American art."

We welcome the public to join us for our free presentation held in our living room overlooking the Damariscotta River. The Lincoln Home is located at 22 River Road, Newcastle. For more information, please contact Activities Director, Rhonda Hanna, at 563-3350.
