Housecalls visits are generally simple, without struggle but always interesting. We can schedule for a nail trim, but your pet’s overall well being is always taken into account, with an experienced eye. One such visit was to a multiple cat house, for trimming many nails! One older cat, a long-time resident rescued from the outdoors many years ago has grown to be a sweet and gentle house companion. She is a bit frail, having weathered more than her share of cold winters without adequate food and shelter. Thanks to her good home, she has overcome and blossomed. On a routine visit for nail trimming, we noticed her with a bit of a sniffle and off her food. Confirming the owners concerns, we transported the kitty to her veterinarian, who administered antibiotics and medications to quell the infection brewing in her mouth. She suffers from stomatitis, a chronic inflammation of the gums, often remedied by removing all the teeth...this kitty’s teeth had been lost before she even found her forever home, but when her condition deteriorates, it can be a quick decline in overall health. It was a good call by the owner, combining a nail trimming for all eleven cats...all rescued...with a confirmation visit to her veterinarian for urgent care. The kitty improved, and we help her owner keep an eye on her overall health, with each visit for (now) a dozen nail trims! And remember, February is Pet Dental Month!
