Rockland Council considers business licenses, council appointments; formally recognizes fire chief’s contributions
ROCKLAND — A full agenda is before the Rockland City Council this evening, Monday, May 12. Two sessions will be held. The first at 6:30 will be an executive session to hear an application for financial assistance from the city’s Katherine B. Haines Fund. Maine Revised Statutes requires the city to preserve the confidentiality of the applicant’s financial statements and tax returns.
The regular meeting of the Rockland City Council is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. The public comment portion of the meeting will begin at that time. Public comment opportunities are for citizens to voice opinions over non-agenda items. At the last two council meetings, Rockland citizens have articulated their opinions concerning a proposed hotel at 250 Main Street. Both the Council and the Rockland Planning Board have been hearing from citizens the height of the hotel.
A public hearing for that building is scheduled for May 20, at 5:15 p.m. in City Hall. The attached May 2 video is Code Enforcement Officer John Root informing City Council members on the city’s height statue and the current heights of buildings around Rockland. He presented the update to the Council’s May 2 agenda-setting meeting.
In other city business:
Five businesses are seeking license and permit approval this evening. They include Rock Harbor Pub & Brewery, Rock City Café, Myrtle Street Tavern, Café Miranda, Navigator Motor Inn and the Rockland Farmer’s Market. The Navigator Motor Inn will be seeking a lodging license. Its restaurant will be closed down when the current license expires.
Under Resolves, Retired Rockland Fire Chief Charles Jordan will be recognized for his 25 years of dedicated service to the City of Rockland. Jordan retired on April 30. Jordan served 15 years on the Call Division of the fire department and 10 years as chief.
Two former city employees will be appointed to boards of the city. Former Rockland Mayor Will Clayton will be appointed to the Board of Assessment Review and Charles Jordan will be appointed to the Planning Board. Robin Jordan will be appointed to the Personnel Board and Anthony Coyne will take a seat on the Energy Committee.
The council will also consider and vote authorizing a temporary street closure for the Blues Festival Pub Crawl and authorization of a fee waiver for the use of Harbor Park for the Lobster Festival.
