Lynne Floyd, obituary
MECHANICSVILLE, Md. & ROCKLAND, Maine — Lynne Rogers Floyd, 83, died peacefully June 8, 2014, at her home in Mechanicsville, Md., after a brief illness.
Lynne, an identical twin, was born Jan. 13, 1931, in Rockland, the daughter of Linwood Towers Rogers and Pauline McLoon Rogers. The 4-pound miracles living in shoe boxes on a radiator at the hospital were a great draw to the local citizens. Their grandfather, AC McLoon, told the poor doctor he had better make sure they survived, and indeed they did, and led active family-filled lives.
Lynne graduated from Rockland High School and Fisher Junior College. She married Bill Sharpe in 1955 and is survived by her three children, Terry E. Scalsky of Mechanicsville, Md., Peter M. Sharpe of Washington, D.C., and Gayle L. Sharpe of Poland, Maine. She married Clifford Floyd of Amherst, N.H., in 1986 and the joy and laughter didn't stop for 21 years. She enjoyed reading, travel and spending time with her identical twin sister, Gayle. Lynne was the children's librarian at the Amherst Public Library for many years.
Lynne is also survived by her grandchildren, Chris Scalsky, John Scalsky, Michael Scalsky and Ryan Scalsky, Katrina Sharpe and Peter Sharpe Jr., and Courtney Steele and Sean Steele. Her great nieces and nephews include Gayle and John LeGloahec's children, Victor, Lynne, Anne, Valerie and Eric, and brother Mac and Stevie Rogers' children, Scott, Jeff, Marcia and Cindy.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 300, Memphis, TN 38148-0552
Family and friends are invited to visit Thursday, June 19 from 1 to 2 p.m., with a funeral service immediately following at 2 p.m. at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St. in Rockland. Interment will follow at Achorn Cemetery.
