James Wannop, obituary
ROCKPORT — James William Wannop passed away June 8, 2014, in Augusta, after living a full and rewarding life.
Born Dec. 27, 1922, to James and Elizabeth Jefferson Wannop, Jim was raised in Fitchburg, Mass. He served in the Navy during World War II on the USS North Carolina and the USS Alaska. In civilian life he worked for the City of Fitchburg. After retiring in 1973, he and his wife, Doris, moved to Camden, where he worked as a self-employed carpenter and renovator.
His love of music and family defined his life. Known for his cheerfulness, kindness and a song for every occasion, he will be greatly missed by his friends and family.
He is survived by his daughter, Jo Desmond of Rockport; his grandson, Tony Ziegler of Allston, Mass.; his longtime companion, Irene Eaton of Rockport; his sister, Ellen Brown; and a large extended family of nieces, nephews, their spouses and children. He was predeceased by his wife, Doris; and his sister, Ida Hooper.
A private service will be held for the family with interment at Oak Hill Cemetery in Camden.
Arrangements are under the care of Riposta Funeral Home.
