Christopher Guptill, obituary
SEARSMONT – Christopher O. “Lump” Guptill, 31, died unexpectedly June 12, 2014, at his home.
Born in Vinalhaven, July 10, 1982, he was the son of Albert H. III and Nancy Olson Guptill Walker. Growing up on “the Island,” he was educated in local schools and was a class of 2000 graduate of Vinalhaven High School. During his high school years, Chris enjoyed playing basketball and soccer, and was a member of the math team. He traveled with the French Club to Paris and spent a time in Russia as part of a student exchange program.
He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America, Troop No. 242 in Vinalhaven, and enjoyed attending Camp Winniaugwamauk in Brooksville.
In the fall of 2000, he began studies at Bentley University in Boston, graduating in 2004 with a Bachelor of Science in finance.
Having lobstered out of Vinalhaven throughout his school years, after graduating from Bentley, Chris returned to the island where he lobstered another season. The next year he spent working in the corporate offices of Proctor & Gamble in Waltham, Mass. Returning to Maine, he worked a brief time with MBNA before moving to the accounting division of Camden National Bank. From 2008 to 2014 he was associated with Allen Financial Services in Camden. Most recently Chris worked with Edward-Jones Company in their Camden office.
September 18, 2010, he married Sarah L. Marriner at Point Lookout in Northport. Chris and Sarah worked together making their home. He loved their black Labrador dogs, Maggie and Ellie, who Sarah said, they considered their children.
Chris was an avid University of Maine hockey fan and attended many of that team’s games.
Predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Ivan H. Olson; Chris is survived by his wife, Sarah, of Searsmont; his mother and step-father, Nancy and Robert “Richie” Walker of Rockport; his father, Albert “Billy” Guptill III; his sister, Rebecca Guptill; his brother, Andrew Guptill; and his maternal grandmother, Norma Olsen, all of Vinalhaven; his paternal grandparents, Albert Jr. and Margaret Robishaw Guptill of Camden; his step-brother, Michael Walker of Scarborough; his step-sister, Christina Powell and her husband, Nick, and their three children, of Yarmouth; his parents-in-law, Michael and Sheila Marriner of Lincolnville; his sister-in-law and her husband, Stacy and Jason McCarthy of Durham; his brother-in-law, Zachary Marriner of Thomaston; a niece, AnnaLee Dyer of Vinalhaven; as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Friends and relatives are invited to visit Wednesday, June 18 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St. in Rockland.
