Just after 10:30 a.m., Aug. 27, deputies from the Knox County Sheriff's Office responded to a call of a two vehicle crash at the intersection Rt. 235 (Ridge Rd.) and Old Augusta Road in Warren.
The deputies arrived and found that a 2005 BMW SUV, operated by David Kristiansen, 57, of Waldoboro, was crossing Route 235 from Old Augusta Rd. traveling eastbound. Witnesses stated he had stopped at the stop sign and proceeded across, according to a news release from the sheriff’s department.
There is a crest of a hill at the intersection when traveling northbound and that was where John Shane, 75, of Rockland was operating his 2008 BMW Motorcycle.
Shane was unable to stop or avoid the SUV and hit the passenger side doors, the report said. Shane was thrown from his motorcycle and was transported to a mid-Maine hospital by LifeFlight. He was conscious and alert, but with possible internal injuries and broken bones. No injuries by occupants in the SUV. Shane was wearing a helmet.
