Martha E. Thompson, obituary
CAMDEN and SOUTH PORTLAND — Martha Ellen Thompson, 93, died peacefully Jan. 1, 2013, at Windward Gardens in Camden.
Born on Vinalhaven March 1, 1919, she was the daughter of Dr. Ralph and Florence Clark Thompson. Miss Thompson graduated from Vinalhaven High School, class of 1939.
After graduation she left the island and worked several years with Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company in York. She later moved to Portland, where she worked a brief time with Maine Egg Producers in Scarborough and for many years at Maine Medical Center in Portland, retiring in 1985.
She was the secretary and very active in the Vinalhaven-Portland Fish Hawks Club, which met annually in Portland. She was also active in the Vacationland Dog Club and assisted at all their dog shows.
Miss Thompson was a charter member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Cape Elizabeth. In 2005 she became a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Westbrook. She was a 50-year member of Marguerite Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star in Vinalhaven.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, May 8, at 11 a.m. at Cummings Cemetery on Vinalhaven. The Rev. Karen Indorf, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, will officiate.
