Waldoboro Police beat: Stolen cat, UPS package, accidents
WALDOBORO — Waldoboro police responded to 109 calls for service from July 19-26. Listed below are a few of the highlights. An arrest or summons does not apply guilt. A person charged with a crime is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
July 19
Officer Larry Hesseltine is investigating a report from a citizen of the theft of a UPS package.
Officer Thomas Bartunek is investigating a report from a citizen of the theft of money.
July 20
Hesseltine is investigating a report from a citizen of the theft of a cat.
Hesseltine is investigating a report from a citizen of harassment by text message.
Bartunek investigated an accident at the Friendship, Back Cove Road intersection. An unknown operator was driving a 2016 Toyota sedan owned by Toyota Lease Trust. Ashley Ranco, 28, of Friendship, was driving a 2015 Volkswagon sedan. The third vehicle was a parked 2006 Volkswagen sedan owned by Marie Wallace, of Waldoboro. The Toyota sedan was traveling southbound on Friendship Road, attempting to turn left into Flipper’s Store. Ranco was traveling northbound on Friendship Road. The Toyota sedan started to turn left and failed to see Ranco’s vehicle. She attempted to avoid the Toyota and drove off roadway to right, struck a stump, rock wall and support wire for CMP pole. Ranco then struck Wallace, who was parked in a driveway. The leased vehicle did not make contact with any vehicle, police checked area and had negative contact. Injuries were reported.
July 21
Hesseltine is investigating a report from a citizen of the theft of medication.
July 23
Shane Sykes, 26, of Bristol, was issued a summons by Officer Steven Drake for harvesting shellfish without a town license.
Officer Jeffery Fuller is investigating a report from a citizen of a computer scam.
July 24
Fuller is investigating a report from a citizen of criminal mischief to his mailbox.
July 25
Officer John Lash investigated an accident on Friendship Road, at 1:10 a.m. Crystal Benner, 30, of Waldoboro, was driving a 2000 Subaru utility vehicle. Benner was traveling southbound and was operating in an erratic, careless, negligent or aggressive manner, going off the road and striking trees or bushes. Possible injuries were noted.
As a result of the accident Crystal Benner, 30, of Waldoboro, was charged with operating under the influence.
Bartunek investigated an accident at the Friendship, Jefferson, Main Street intersection.Christian Becksvoort, 66, of New Gloucester, was driving a 2014 Ford cargo van. Dale Prentice, 67, of Bristol, was driving a 2008 GMC pickup truck. Becksvoort was traveling north on Friendship Road. Prentice was traveling west on Main Street. Becksvoort approached the stop sign, failed to see Prentice and proceeded through the intersection, striking him. No injuries were reported.
