Camden fire, police respond to unusual fire at Camden Hills State Park
CAMDEN — Fumes and smoke from a burning laptop and Blue-ray CD player filled a neighboring RV this morning, Aug. 10, at Camden Hills State Park, enough to warrant a call to 911 and the Camden Fire Department.
By the time firefighters arrived, the fire had been extinguished by park staff with water, but the remains of the electronic equipment — melted plastic and metal — were well charred.
According to firefighters, a woman had arrived earlier in the morning, secured a campsite, and proceeded to build a fire. In it, she put the laptop and Blue-ray.
Camden police were subsequently called to the scene and the incident remains under investigation. A forest ranger also arrived, the park being his purview for violations.
It is the first time Camden firefighters have responded to burning electronics in the state park.
