UPDATED: Landscape truck driver cited after Warren motorcyclist injured in crash

WARREN — A Warren man who sustained serious injuries after colliding with a landscaping trailer being towed by a pickup truck, which turned in front of him on Route 90 early Thursday evening, was transferred by a Lifeflight of Maine helicopter to Maine Medical Center in Portland.
The crash occurred in Warren just after 5 p.m. on Aug. 6, and the driver of the truck was charged with a violation the following day.
Knox County Sheriff’s Patrol Sgt. Matt Elwell said that Eugene Neild, 40, was driving a 2015 Yamaha motorcycle east on Route 90, when a westbound pickup truck towing a landscaping trailer turned in front of him and he could not avoid crashing into it. The truck was turning left into 191 Camden Road, the Midcoast Animal Emergency Clinic.
Neild attempted to stop his motorcycle, as evidenced by a nearly 100-foot-long black skid mark on the pavement leading up to the trailer. After striking the trailer, which remained across the east side of road during the accident investigation, Elwell said that Neild was ejected from the motorcycle, thrown up in the air and onto the trailer.
“He wasn’t wearing a helmet, flipped up and actually landed in the trailer,” said Elwell. “He was left with serious but we believe non-life-threatening injuries.”
The driver of the 2000 Dodge truck, owned by H&D Landscaping, was Ted Davis, 39, of Camden. He was uninjured in the crash.
Elwell said that Deputy Paul Spear was conducting an accident reconstruction, and that initially it did not appear that speed was a factor.
“The truck driver said he did not see the motorcycle, and that the sun may have been a factor, as well as a lack of attentiveness,” said Elwell.
Elwell said Friday that Davis was charged with failure to yield the right of way while turning left.
Warren Fire and rescue responded to the scene. Neild was transported to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport Thursday, but was transferred to the Portland medical center soon after arrival.
