Burnham man arrested following domestic altercation
BURNHAM — A Burnham man was arrested by Waldo County Sheriff’s Office deputies following a reported domestic disturbance just after midnight July 23.
Robert Later, 35, of Burnham, is accused of preventing his estranged girlfriend from leaving his residence.
The two had allegedly met to discuss their “relationship and common children,” according to a news release from the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office.
When the two began to argue, the woman attempted to leave Later’s residence, the release said.
The complainant told deputies Later blocked her exit, in addition to physically restraining her and taking her phone to prevent her from calling law enforcement for assistance.
While on scene deputies learned the complainant has an active protection order from Later, barring him from having contact with her.
Robert Later was ultimately arrested and charged with domestic assault, criminal restraint, obstructing the report of a crime and violating a protection order.
Later is currently being held without bail at the Waldo County Correctional Center, due to the charge of violating of the protective order.
