Union crash sends two to hospital
UNION — The Knox County Sheriff's Office is investigating a two-car crash that occurred on Route 17 at the intersection of the North Union Road in Union. The emergency call was made to Knox County Regional Communications Center at approximately 7 a.m. this morning.
According to a news release issued by the sheriff's office, the accident occured as Dianne Collins, 59, of Rockland, was heading west on Route 17. A 16 year-old female, driving a 2003 Chevrolet Malibu, allegedly drove in the path of Collins from the North Union Road, the release said.
Collins was unable to avoid striking the other car and hit it broadside at the driver's side door.
Collins and the teenager were transported to Penobscot Bay Medical Center in Rockport. Collins was listed in stable condition and the juvenile was listed in more serious condition. Lifeflight was called due because of the teen's condition, but weather precluded its ability to respond.
There were no passengers in either car. Both were using seatbelts at the time of the crash.
Knox County Deputy John Hansen is investigating the crash. Union Fire, Union Ambulance, and Sterling Ambulance assisted at the scene.
