Three arrested for bath salts

Rockland continues to be one of the most active cities in Maine for bath salts, according to Maine Drug Enforcement Agency Senior Special Agent James Pease, and the arrest of three people Thursday afternoon serves as evidence of the statement.
Following two separate investigations in Rockland involving residents buying and receiving "synthetic hallucinogenic" drugs off the Internet, and then using and/or reselling them in the city, police arrested Hillary Hannan, 24, Allan Boody, 27, and Corey Conway, 41.
Hannan was charged with possession of synthetic hallucinogenic drugs (bath salts) and failure to pay fines. Boody and Conway were each charged with one count of felony possession of hallucinogenic drugs (bath salts) and violation of probation. At the time of their arrest, Boody and Conday were on probation for previous drug violations, which elevated their drug charges to felonies, according to a press release from Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland.
According to McCausland, Conway was arrested at his apartment on Broadway Street, and Hannan and Boody were taken into custody at their residence on North Main Street.
Seized from each location was about five grams of bath salts, with a combined street value of $5,000. Agents also seized Suboxone and Oxycodone pills.
All three were taken to Knox County Jail in Rockland.
Speaking Friday, Pease said the usage of bath salts in Maine has remained about the same, with Rockland and Bangor continuing to be the hotspots statewide.
"The usage is about the same, but we are seeing people getting smaller amounts over the Internet," said Pease. "Where we used to see ounces and pounds of bath salts purchased, people are buying 10 grams for $300 off the Internet, then selling it in 1/10ths of a gram for $20 or $40."
