Free parent support group offered by Waldo County YMCA and The Ridge, April 26
BELFAST — The Waldo County YMCA is partnering with The Ridge, a residential teen mental health treatment program in Morrill, to offer a free and supportive event for parents. The program will be held Saturday, April 26, at 10 a.m., in the Community Room, Waldo County YMCA, 157 Lincolnville Ave, Belfast.
Raising children today can be challenging, and many parents feel overwhelmed or disconnected. This event is designed to provide a welcoming space where parents can learn, share, and find support.
The session will focus on key topics like improving communication with teens, the importance of self-care for parents, and practical, solution-focused strategies for dealing with everyday parenting challenges. It’s also an opportunity for parents to connect with others in the community who are facing similar experiences.
The event will be led by Matthew Hendry, a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor with over 25 years of experience working with adolescents and their families. Hendry is a well-known speaker who has presented at schools and conferences across the country, according to the YMCA, in a news release.
"He is known for his approachable, down-to-earth style and helpful advice," said the Y.
“Parenting can be incredibly rewarding, but it also comes with its own set of challenges,” said Waldo County YMCA CEO, Russell Werkman. “We’re proud to work with The Ridge and welcome Matthew Hendry to our community. We believe this event will help parents feel more connected and empowered.”
Megan Ryan, Ridge Maine executive director, said, “At The Ridge, we see how much families are juggling every day. We’re excited to join with the Waldo County YMCA to make this event available and share Matthew’s expertise with local parents.”
