Kathi (Walker) Doherty, obituary
THOMASTON — Kathi Joleen (Walker) Doherty, 65, of Thomaston, died on Sunday, April 13, 2025 at her home in Thomaston, after a long and courageous battle with many health issues. She faced every challenge with a strong will, a sharp mind, and a spirit of grit and determination. Kathi lived her life on her own terms – stubborn, independent and true to herself until her last breath.
Born on June 8, 1959 at the Camden Community Hospital in Camden, she was the daughter of Wendell and Judith (Rhodes) Walker. She was the second of four children and grew up in Rockport. From a young age, Kathi showed her strength and determination. She was an outstanding athlete, known especially for her pitching ability on the softball field. She played through her youth, high school years, gaining a reputation as being tough, often beating the boys on and off the field.
As a teenager, Kathi worked taking care of the elderly, a field where she demonstrated her natural compassion and work ethic. She was a member of the Class of 1977 at Camden-Rockport High School, and married Richard M. Doherty shortly thereafter. They started a family early in life, having two children, Jacqueline and Richard, Jr.
Kathi was a true Mainer. She loved animals and had a deep appreciation for nature. Over the years, her backyard became a sanctuary for wildlife and she took great joy in feeding the deer and turkeys, watching nature unfold outside her windows. She also loved camping, fishing and walks through the woods.
She was humble and kind, always willing to help someone if they truly needed it. Kathi would “give the shirt off her back” without any hesitation, never asking for anything in return. That was just who she was.
Kathi was a daughter, a mother, a grandmother, a sister and friend. She will be deeply missed by her daughter, Jackquelin Doherty and her son, Richard M. Doherty, Jr.; her grandchildren; brothers, Jeffrey Walker, Bryan Walker; and sister, Sherri Hart; as well as all of those who had the privilege of knowing her.
There will be a graveside service held Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at 11 a.m., at the West Rockport Cemetery, Park Street, Rockport, with the Rev. Linda Campbell Marshall officiating.
