Ellen Reynolds on why she is running for Camden-Rockport School Board seat
My name is Ellen Reynolds, and I would like to formally introduce myself to the community as a candidate for School Board in the Town of Rockport. I have long been interested in taking a step to serve my community in this capacity, and while I will be challenging incumbent Brieanna Gutierrez, my desire to run is based solely on the skills and perspectives I am able to offer.
In the current political climate, I believe strongly in taking action to support and bolster the well-being of our community, and consider a stable, adaptive, and forward-thinking education system to be the basic foundation from which to build. I offer the community a unique set of skills, from being a teacher to a school director, a parent to a private school board member, I am well versed in the intricacies necessary to run a school district well. I understand the delicate balance in meeting the needs of many–students, parents, teachers, policies, budgets and everything in between– and all that it takes to maneuver a complicated puzzle of ever-moving parts.
I have a long history of working in civil services, from being a full-time AmeriCorps *NCCC volunteer in the Washington D.C region, to currently serving on the Megunticook River Citizens Advisory Committee, and the board of directors at both Sundog Outdoor Expeditions and Megunticook RiverKeepers.
I hold a B.A. in environmental science and marine ecology from the University of North Carolina, and an M.S. in international logistics management from Maine Maritime Academy. I am a logical and fact-based thinker who leans heavily into data whenever applicable, paired with a compassionate and active listener who cares deeply about fostering a kind and collaborative community.
I look forward to the opportunity to serve the school district in the future and thank you for your support in this endeavor.
Ellen Reynolds is owner of Drift Oceanside Inn and a parent of two boys ages 8 and 10.
