Penobscot Bay YMCA offers free youth swim lessons in Spring 2025
ROCKPORT — The Penobscot Bay YMCA is committed to ensuring that every child has the opportunity to learn life-saving water skills, regardless of their background or ability.
Thanks to a generous grant from Y-USA, the Penobscot Bay YMCA in Rockport is offering free swim lessons for up to 100 children from families with financial need, from historically underrepresented communities, or those with diverse abilities. This funding enhances access and inclusion, helping the Y build a safer, more confident community in and around the water.
These free swim lessons are available in the upcoming program session, which runs from April 28 to June 21.
“As summer approaches, we know how important it is for families to feel safe around water," said Jodi Maltese, director of Aquatics at the Penobscot Bay YMCA, in a news release. "Our swim lessons, now available to all community members, provide instruction to ensure children learn to enjoy and navigate water safely. Families can complete the Free Swim Lesson eligibility form now to get their child enrolled immediately in the coming program session.”
“In our waterfront community, water safety skills are a necessity that every child should have the opportunity to learn, regardless of their circumstances,” said Sean Sullivan, Aquatics coordinator at the Penobscot Bay YMCA. “We’re proud to offer free swim lessons that improve access for all, helping families build confidence and enjoy a safer summer.”
At the heart of the Free Youth Swim Lessons program is the Penobscot Bay YMCA’s Aquatics Center, home to Knox County’s only public access lap pool, as well as a therapeutic pool, sauna, and competition hosting abilities.
