Marion L. Goss, obituary
ROCKLAND — Marion L. Goss, 99, died peacefully July 5, 2013, at Bartlett Woods.
Born in Rockland June 29, 1914, she was the daughter of Herbert R. and Adlema Higgins Mullen. Educated locally, she was a 1932 graduate of Rockland High School.
Marion was a long-time active member of the First Baptist Church in Rockland.
For more than 16 years Marion was employed at Senter Cranes in Rockland. Her family remembered that after Marion was asked by her boss why she bought her clothes elsewhere and not at Senter Cranes, she replied because other stores had "better styles." After that Marion began traveling to New York City as a buyer for the store. Always meticulous in her appearance, she had a sharp eye for color and style and never left her house unless she was well dressed.
Marion continued her career as a sales clerk, moving to the House of Cards, where she was employed for 29 years before retiring in 1992.
She took great pleasure in spending time with family, especially summer days at her sister's cottage on the river in Cushing. She was also an avid knitter and reader.
For several years Marion has resided at Bartlett Woods in Rockland. She greatly enjoyed the many new friendships she forged there, even at 94 years old. The staff members there were some of her favorite people, and her family said they were very helpful, caring and supportive in her last days.
Predeceased by her husband, Donald Goss in 1970; her sister, Vivian Vinal in 2005; a son, Richard Goss in 2011; and a cousin, Vera Miller; Marion is survived by her son, Eugene Goss and his wife, Marie, of St. George; two nieces, Sheila Montgomery and her husband, Floyd, of Rockland, and Barbara Reilly and her husband, Donald, of New Harbor; a daughter-in-law, Debra Goss of Owls Head; six grandchildren, Justin Goss and his wife, Dawn, of Pace, Fla., Jenna Wood and her husband, Al, of Mobile, Ala., Christopher Goss of Stratham, N.H., Dawn Borden and her husband, Ted, of Sherborn, Mass., Jeremy Treneer and his wife, Heather, of Bucksport, and Tania Kingsbury and her husband, Daniel, of Port Clyde; and 10 great-grandchildren, Amanda and Meredith Borden, Devon and Ethan Wood, Cameron, Anna and Connor Kingsbury, Madelyn Goss, and Brady and Emma Treneer.
Family and friends are invited to visit Friday, July 12, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St. in Rockland. A graveside celebration of her life will be held Friday, August 2, at 2 p.m. at Achorn Cemetery on Old County Road in Rockland.
