Swanville man charged with possession of bath salts
BELFAST — A lengthy bathroom visit at Belfast Variety June 24 ended with an arrest and drug possession charges for a Swanville man. Belfast Police chief Mike McFadden said employees of the store reported a man and woman were refusing to exit the bathroom last Monday, despite repeated requests.
McFadden said that even after police arrived on scene the two individuals, later identified as Devin Sprague, 22, of Swanville, and Rebecca Rogers, 29, of Searsmont, were slow to emerge. McFadden said that once they did leave the restroom, the story they told officers "didn't make sense." Ultimately, police determined Sprague and Rogers were under the influence of something.
A search of the pair yielded small, empty baggies that bath salts are often packaged in, a pipe and hypodermic needles. Sprague, who currently has probation conditions prohibiting the use of drugs or alcohol, was arrested and taken to Two Bridges Regional Jail. He was charged with possession of synthetic hallucinogens.
Rogers was summonsed for sale and use of drug paraphernalia.
