Victim turns table on Union ex-husband, Washington man in assault, burglary
UNION — A planned trip to Union to allegedly "beat up" his ex-wife's boyfriend came undone early Saturday morning when the ex-husband sustained defensive wounds and crashed his car after fleeing the scene.
That's the short-version scenario that led to the arrest of Craig Holmes, 22, of Union, and Jason Brassard, 31, of Washington, on charges of class B felony burglary and class D misdemeanor assault. According to Knox County Chief Deputy Tim Carroll, Holmes was also charged with operating under the influence stemming from the incident.
Carroll said Sheriff's deputies responded to a complaint on Stone Road that two men had broken into a house and beat up the complainant's boyfriend. As deputies were en route, two man waived down Deputy Lance Mitchell on Bump Hill Road.
"One man identified as Craig Holmes... stated he had just crashed his car and that he was [the] one that they, (the deputies) were probably looking for. Holmes stated he had just left his ex-wife's house and was hit in the head by her boyfriend with a bat," said Carroll in a press release.
The investigation allegedly determined that Holmes and Brassard went to the residence with the intention of assaulting the boyfriend. The pair forced their way into the home where a confrontation occurred, and Homes was hit in the head with a small baseball bat.
"The two left the residence by car, failed to negotiate a turn and crashed," said Carroll.
Homes and Brassard were transported to Knox County Jail and Carroll said additional charges may be brought in the incident, which remains under investigation.
