Are you ready for supermoon?
At 7:32 p.m. Saturday, June 22, the moon will rise and it will be a big and bright one, outdone only by the moon's rise the following night, Sunday at 8:30 p.m., when it will be not only full, but live up to its nickname "supermoon."
Hopefully, the weather will be clear enough both days to take advantage of this once-a-year opportunity.
If the clouds cooperate, Sunday's moon will truly be super. The moon Sunday night will not only be the closest and largest full moon of the year – it will be the moon's closest encounter with Earth this year, making it the supermoon of 2013.
The National Weather Service is calling for partly cloudy skies Sunday night, and a chance of thunderstorms with mostly cloudy skies Saturday. Keep your fingers crossed that Mother Nature cooperates because if we miss Sunday's supermoon, the next opportunity to see one will be in August 2014.
