Five taken to Rockport hospital after Route 17 crash in Hope
HOPE — Five people were taken to the hospital Thursday night following a two-vehicle, head-on crash on Route 17 in Hope.
Knox County Sheriff's Deputies Nathanial Jack and Lance Mitchell were called around 8:30 p.m. to the intersection of Main Street (Route 17) and Harts Mill Road. There they found that a 1998 Toyota Corolla had crashed into a 2008 Toyota Tundra pickup truck.
The driver of the Corolla was Cynthia McCarthy, 55, of Rockaldn. She had a passenger in her car, Frank Rolerson, 48, of Lincolnville.
The driver of the Tundra was Craig Hawes, 50, of Union, and his passengers included his wife, Erica, 40, and his daughter, Olivia, 18.
According to the Sheriff's Office, Hawes was driving westbound on Route 17 and was going to turn left onto Harts Mill Road when McCarthy, traveling in the opposite direction on Route 17, was unable to avoid crashing into him.
Hawes was issued a summons for failure to yield to oncoming traffic.
All five individuals involved in the accident were transported to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport by Union Ambulance and Camden First Aid Association with non-life threatening injuries. Also at the scene was Hope Fire Department.
