SEARSPORT — In his regular Radio Searsport email dispatches, resident Dick Desmarais seeks to keep the community updated on pending municipal and school board meetings, local fisheries hearings and other items of interest.
Following is the most recent Radio Searsport dispatch, dated May 5.

• Saturday, May 11, starting at 5 p.m., the monthly turkey supper will take place at the Searsport United Methodist Church. This is a buffet style, all-you-can-eat turkey supper. Adults are $9, $4.50 for children under 12.
• Saturday, May 11, the Belfast Maskers will be presenting Almost Maine, directed by Aynne Ames. The play explores love and loss in many comical and serious ways; in a remote, yet mythical place in Aroostook County. The play starts at 7 p.m. in Union Hall. Tickets can be purchased at the door.
• Monday, May 13, starting at 6:30 p.m., the regular meeting of the Searsport Planning Board will take place in the Town Hall. This meeting will be televised.
• Tuesday, May 14, starting at around 5 a.m., East Main Street (Route 1) from the intersection of Trundy Road, will be shut down to allow the transfer of a future power plant from Sprague Energy - Trundy Road to Belfast Route 141. The final destination of this unit is Windsor. The lead agency on this transfer will be the Maine State Police. Anyone traveling Route 1 at that time should expect delays.
• Tuesday, May 14, starting at 6:30 p.m., the North Searsport Fire House Committee will meet in the Town Hall. This meeting will be televised.
• The Searsport District High School Senior Class is working with World Wide Book Drive to collect books to help fight illiteracy in the world. All books are used no matter what the subject area or condition. Obsolete or badly damaged books are sent to a life skills center for the handicapped, where they are recycled and provide jobs. The National Honor Society and Student Council will be collecting these books and boxing them for shipping until the first of June. Books can be taken to the elementary schools in Searsport, Frankfort and Stockton Springs. There are also drop off boxes at the Searsport High School and the RSU 20 Central Office. For more information, email mstamp@rsu20.org or call 548-2313.
• Starting in late August and continuing through Dec. 8, there will be an emergency medical technician class held in Searsport at the Public Safety Building. Students who successfully complete this EMT course are eligible to sit for the Maine EMT-Basic Licensure exam. The class consists of 117 contact hours and 16 clinical hours. The class is rated for 5.5 credits. Anyone interested in taking this class, or who would like more information, can contact Cory at Searsport Ambulance at 548-2302.
• On a personal note, my wife has a large number of knitting books that she wants to part with. The stack of books is about a foot high and free to the first person to get to them.
