Jefferson man killed in Alna motorcycle crash after entering closed construction site
ALNA — On Tuesday August 25, 2020, at 5:31 p.m., the Lincoln County Communications Center received a 911 call reporting a motorcycle crash on Route 218/Alna Road in the town of Alna.
Deputies responded to the area and found a single motorcycle crash at the intersection of the Cross Road and Alna Road. The section of Alna Road where the crash occurred is currently closed for construction with large traffic control barricades at intersections.
According to Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, the initial investigation indicates that Michael Bowden, 62, of Jefferson, was traveling north on Route 218, operating a 2020 Indian Motorcycle, when he entered the closed section of Alna Road, passing two separate areas of barricades and construction signage before striking a barricade at the Cross Road intersection.
Bowden was transported by Central Lincoln County Ambulance to Lincoln Health Miles Campus in Damariscotta, where he succumbed to his injuries.
“Mr. Bowden was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and investigators believe alcohol may be a factor and is part of the ongoing investigation,” said the LCSO, in a news release.
Detective Scott Hayden is leading the investigation, and was assisted at the scene by Deputy Jon Colby.
Deputy Brian Carlton, of the Sagadahoc Sheriff’s Office, is reconstructing the crash as part of the investigation. Also assisting at the scene were members of the Alna Fire Department and Central Lincoln County Ambulance.
