Rockport Library construction report, April 24
The Rockport Public Library construction project is moving along. This report is for the period ending 4-24-2020. To see an archive of all previous construction reports thus far, click on the following link Previous Construction Reports.
According to Rick Bates, who is monitoring the project: “In spite of the COVID-19 outbreak, Phi and their crew and team of subcontractors have managed to keep the library project moving forward at good pace. While things have slowed a bit, they are committed to completing the project as close to schedule as possible, as safely as possible.”
Work continues on the interior of the building with sheetrock being installed. The electrical, plumbing and heating rough in continues, as well as the installation of the fire suppression system.
The Phi team has nearly completed the installation of windows and doors which makes a huge difference in the way the building looks from the outside, as well as the inside.
The masons have nearly completed the North wall of the Library with only a small piece of the decorative chimney remaining as of the end of the day on Friday.
They will next move to the East side of the building, clockwise around to the front of the building. The construction will begin on the structure for the arches in the front of the building that will hold up the deck overlooking Russell Ave in mid-May.
Roofing is scheduled to begin the first week of June. The tiling of the restrooms will begin in early May, as the tile is expected to be delivered by the end of April.
The elevator is expected to be installed in approximately 2 months, but that is not holding up any of the construction.
Phi and the design and construction team have continued to make good progress in this difficult time.
The electrical rough-in continues. Shown below, is one of the electrical panels in the mechanical room where just a fraction of the wires ends up. When asked “how do you keep all those wires straight”, the electrician answered “lots of really good labels.”
