Appleton Fire, mutual aid called to camper blaze
APPLETON — At approximately 9:15 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 28, volunteer firefighters made their way to the Peabody Road, in Appleton, following a report of a camper fire.
Dispatchers from the Knox County Communications Center called upon crews from Washington, Union, Hope, and Searsmont to assist Appleton in extinguishing the camper, which was fully engulfed by the time equipment arrived.
The Peabody Road is a long stretch connecting Gushees Corner, and the Sennebec Road, on the south side of town, to Route 105 on the north side. The road starts out paved from Gushee’s Corner, but turns into a two-lane packed dirt with limited room for passing. The property itself, 764 Peabody Road, is hidden down a curved, narrow driveway.
The rear of the camper was further hidden by a cross slat blind.
More information will be added as details become available.
