Camden-Rockport arch repaired, back home

CAMDEN — The Camden-Rockport arch was lowered back in place Oct. 4 with a rebuilt pillar, destroyed after a tractor-trailer truck making an early afternoon delivery to a store on Union Street Aug. 23, hit the structure.
The top of the arch was removed after the crash and then the pillar had to be completely rebuilt, according to Gregg Haining of Vision Builders in Rockport, the contractor for the project.
The arch has been stored at Rockport Steel for the past month. They transported the arch back to Union Street and with a crane, lowered it over the pillars, all taking about an hour to complete.
The iconic arch, built in 1926, was rebuilt in the 1980s, was also featured in the 1957 movie Peyton Place.
