Winterport man transported to jail following early morning crash
At approximately 5:40 a.m. on July 16 the Waldo County Dispatch Center received a complaint from a concerned citizen reporting that a truck had left the roadway on Main Street in Morrill.
Deputy Merl Reed and Darian Nadeau responded to the call and located Eric Hill, of Winterport, who was the operator and sole occupant of the 2008 Chevy 1500 truck.
Deputies investigated the accident and it was determined that Hill had fallen asleep causing him to cross the roadway, enter the ditch where he struck rocks and debris. Deputies detected alcohol on Mr. Hill and after learning that he had a conditional driver's license that prohibited him from operating a motor vehicle after consuming any alcohol he was subjected to field sobriety, according to news release from the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office. An intoxilyzer test returned results in excess of the legal .08 limit.
Hills was charged with OUI, Class D and operating beyond license restriction, Class E. He was transported to the Waldo County Correctional Center where his bail was set at $300 cash.
